Hi all,
I've been looking into retreats this fall/winter and all of them are either too short or conflict with my work schedule. Is it unheard of for someone with a limited retreat background to request a two-week independent retreat? I don't have the minimal requirements for the centers I have checked. Similarly, does anyone have suggestions for the appropriate manner for contacting a center/teacher that I haven't met. On the face of it, saying "hey we haven't met, but I'd like to spend two weeks at your center," seems pretty dang forward, but that is ultimately the question I would like to ask. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

After my good experience at the MBMC, I have the feeling that I should go at least one time per year in retreat. Unfortunately my time and my finances can not allow me to go to Malaysia as frequent as I would like to. Therefore, I want to as you if you could recommend me any retreat center in Germany (or Europe) that practice along the Mahasi Sayadaw tradition.
I have been googling around, but so far I have not find any place similar to some good centers in USA (e.g. IMS). I am either looking at the wrong places or such centers are really rare. Any experience so far? Were do the good meditators go in the old continent? Any hint is welcomed! @Dan, is Titmuss still teaching at the Gaia House (England)? I could not find him in the website...

I want to start a category for info on SN Goenka centers. I know they aren't recommended by Daniel, but I think a lot of serious practice is possible there, especially for beginners. Each center has its own issues and facilities (for example, the Massachusetts center is building a huge, obnoxious pagoda which many community members oppose), but then again they have many things in common. Could we have a general SN Goenka review/discussion page, with sub-pages for the different geographic sites? I don't know how to set this up on the wiki.
