Advice on Finding Opportunities for Longer Retreats
Hi all,
I've been looking into retreats this fall/winter and all of them are either too short or conflict with my work schedule. Is it unheard of for someone with a limited retreat background to request a two-week independent retreat? I don't have the minimal requirements for the centers I have checked. Similarly, does anyone have suggestions for the appropriate manner for contacting a center/teacher that I haven't met. On the face of it, saying "hey we haven't met, but I'd like to spend two weeks at your center," seems pretty dang forward, but that is ultimately the question I would like to ask. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Comparing with Western Centers
This is a great review. Thanks so much for writing it, and for including the pictures. I've considered going to MBMC several times, but I always find myself going back to to the Western Centers (IMS, Spirit Rock, Forest Refuge, etc.). I'd love to hear someone who has gone to both comment on how they compare, in detail. Obviously, MBMC is probably a lot cheaper, but with a plane ticket to Malaysia when you compare it to the discounted rates that the Forest Refuge offers it's actually quite comparable from most places in the United States. Europe may be totally different.
In any case, thanks again for the review. :)

Looking for retreat centers in Europe
After my good experience at the MBMC, I have the feeling that I should go at least one time per year in retreat. Unfortunately my time and my finances can not allow me to go to Malaysia as frequent as I would like to. Therefore, I want to as you if you could recommend me any retreat center in Germany (or Europe) that practice along the Mahasi Sayadaw tradition.
I have been googling around, but so far I have not find any place similar to some good centers in USA (e.g. IMS). I am either looking at the wrong places or such centers are really rare. Any experience so far? Were do the good meditators go in the old continent? Any hint is welcomed!
@Dan, is Titmuss still teaching at the Gaia House (England)? I could not find him in the website...

SN Goenka Centers
I want to start a category for info on SN Goenka centers. I know they aren't recommended by Daniel, but I think a lot of serious practice is possible there, especially for beginners. Each center has its own issues and facilities (for example, the Massachusetts center is building a huge, obnoxious pagoda which many community members oppose), but then again they have many things in common. Could we have a general SN Goenka review/discussion page, with sub-pages for the different geographic sites? I don't know how to set this up on the wiki.
